PEDIATRIC FEMUR FRACTURES

The femur (thighbone) can be fractured when high amounts of energy are transferred to the bone. This can be seen in motor vehicle accidents, dirt bike accidents, falls and other high impact injuries.  The child should be taken to the emergency room for evaluation as this is a serious injury.

The bone can be realigned and the position held either by casting or surgery.  Treatment will depend on the child’s age and the type of fracture.
